Ma Huang Tang
“ephedra Decoction”
Release Ext. Wind-Cold - W/C excess
Sx: Chills, fever, no sweat, aversion to cold, asthma, wheezing, headache.
T- Thin white tongue coating
P- Floating, Tight
Herbs: ma huang, gui zhi, xing ren, zhi gan cao
Gui Zhi Tang
“Cinnamon Twig Decoction”
Release Ext W-C of Deficient Type
Sx: fever and chills unrelieved by sweating.
T: thin white coat
P: floating, moderate
Herbs: Gui Zhu, Bai Shao, Sheng Jiang, Da Zao, Zhi Gan Cao
Sweating before GZT- local areas (neck or back), sweating comes and goes, accompanied by a cool feeling, pathogenic sx
Sweating after GZT- entire body, persistent slight sweating, accompanied by warm feeling, no pathogenic sx

Ma Huang Tang
- chills and fever, no sweat, muscle aches, floating/tight pulse
Gui Zhi Tang
- chills and fever, sweating, dislikes wind, moderate/floating pulse
Xiao Qing Long Tang
“minor blue green dragon decoction”
Release Ext W-C- W-C with congested fluids
Sx: Fever and chills, no sweat, coughing, wheezing, copious sputum that is white, stringy and difficult to expectorate, generalized sensation of heaviness and body aches
P: floating/tight
T: moist tongue coat
Herbs: ma huang, gui zhi, gan jiang, xi xin, wu wei zi, bai shao, ban xia, gan cao
Ge Gen Tang
“kudza decoction”
Externally contracted W-C at the Taiyang stage
- chills and mild fever, aversion to cold, stiff and rigid neck and upper back, headache, severe backache, joint pain, no sweat (no qi xu), acute watery diarrhea.
T: thin, white tongue
P: floating, tight
Herbs: ge gen, shao yao, ma huang, da zao, gui zhi, sheng jiang, gan cao
Zhi Sou San
“stop coughing powder”
Exterior Wind-Phlegm invasion
- transforms phlegm and extinguish wind; Ext. Wind Ph Attacking the LU
Sx: itchy throat, cough, slight chills, mild fever, aversion to wind, some sputum.
T: thin, white tongue coating
P: moderate, floating
herbs: zi wan, bai bu, bai qian, ju hong, jie geng, jing jie, gan cao
Yin Qiao San
“Honeysuckle and Forsythia Powder”
Exterior Wind Heat with Heat Toxin
Sx: fever, slight or no chills, thirst, SORE THROAT, cough, headache, BOILS,
T: red tip + thin white or thin yellow coat
P: floating, rapid
Herbs: jin yin hua, lian qiao, jie geng, niu bang zi, bo he, dan dou chi, jing jie sui, dan zhu ye, lu gen, gan cao
Sang Ju Yin
“Mulberry Leaf and chrysanthemum Decoction”
Exterior W-H
Sx: slight fever, COUGH, slight thirst, slight sore throat, possible red painful EYES
T: normal/red tongue+ thin white coat
P: floating, rapid
Herbs: sang ye, ju hua, lian qiao, bo he, jie geng, xing ren, lu gen, gan cao

Sang Ju Yin:
stop cough by facilitating LU qi, fever and chills, thirst headache, sore throat, T: thin yellow coat P: floating rapid; cough, red eyes
Yin Qiao San:
clear heat, and relive toxicity, fever and chills, thirst headache, sore throat, T: thin yellow coat P: floating rapid; boils, sores
Ma Xing Shi Gan Tang
“ephedrea, apricot kernel, gypsum, and licorice decoction”
Clear heat from the Organs- Heat lodged in the lungs
Shi heat, cough and wheeze
Sx: chills, fever (high, unrelieved), cough/wheeze, thirst
T: yellow coat
P: slippery, rapid
Herbs: ma huang, shi gao, xing ren, gan cao
Ma Huang: Shi Gao 1:2
Chai Ge Jie Ji Tang
“bupleurum and kudzu decoction”
W/H in all 3 yang channels
- Releases pathogenic influences from the muscle layer; clears interior heat
Herbs: chai hu, ge gen, qiang huo, bai zhi, huang qin, shi gao, jie geng, bai shao, gan cao, sheng jiang, da zao

GZT: Wind cold deficiency type

hx of wind heat invasion- w-h with burning diarrhea after fever, burning sensation around anus
Herbs: ge gen, huang qin, huang lian, gan cao
Ren Shen Bai Du San
Ext W-C-D: internal qi xu
Case: chills, fever, headaches, ** weak pulse
