Formation of Urine Flashcards
1.Filtration
Blood enters the nephron’s glomerulus, where small molecules (water, electrolytes, waste products) are forced out of the bloodstream and into the Bowman’s capsule to form a filtrate.
2.Reabsorption
As the filtrate flows through the renal tubule, essential substances (glucose, amino acids, electrolytes) are reabsorbed into the bloodstream
3.Secretion
Additional waste products (urea, creatinine, drugs) are actively secreted from the blood into the renal tubule
4.Concentration
The remaining fluid in the tubule becomes urine as it undergoes further concentration and dilution depending on the body’s hydration status.
5.Collection
Urine from multiple nephrons is collected in the renal pelvis and transported to the bladder for storage
