A

narrow down field of availables: large group of people we could potentially have a relationship with, then to the filed of desirables: who we see as potential partners

What is the first filter of the model?

A

Social/demographic variables: unaware of influence, tend to mix with people who live near you/go to same work, people in different places/from different backgrounds rarely encountered, similar educational/economic background, social class, religion, ethnic group

A

Similarity of attitudes and values: once people start going out, sharing ideas/beliefs communicating is easier, different interests may mean less time together

Increase the pool of availables by having a large group of friends from different backgrounds, attend more social events to do this, improve efficiency of dating agencies: matched by socio/demographic, paragraph on emotional needs = increased income for agency

A

K+D: based on self report, G-B: longitudinal but attrition? - less happy couples likely to drop out, Newcomb: friendships not relationships but random allocation, S: lots of similarities studied
