What makes a sonnet?
A sonnet is a short lyric poem that consists of 14 lines, typically written in iambic pentameter (a 10-syllable pattern of stressed and unstressed syllables) and following a specific rhyme scheme (of which there are several—we’ll go over this point more in just a moment)
What is blank verse?
Blank verse is poetry written with a precise meter—almost always iambic pentameter—but that does not rhyme. When a poem is written in iambic pentameter, it means each line contains five iambs—two syllable pairs in which the second syllable is emphasized
What is an ode?
A classic ode is structured in three major parts: the strophe, the antistrophe, and the epode. Different forms such as the homostrophic ode and the irregular ode also enter.
What is free verse?
Free verse is a literary device that can be defined as poetry that is free from limitations of regular meter or rhythm, and does not rhyme with fixed forms.
What is a caesura?
A break or pause in a line.
