Form Flashcards
It’s a play
meant to be heard and seen in performance
There are stage directions
All written in dialogue
IC as a morality play
Characters represent moral qualities/traits
e.g. Mr Birling represents greed and Capitalism beliefs
Main moral lesson: a just society can only be achieved if all individuals feel a sense of social responsibility
Play setting does not change to focus on the moral lesson
IC as an inverted detective thriller
Usually, you narrow down suspects but in IC you discover more suspects until everyone is a suspect
Everyone is a suspect in the play = everyone in the audience/society is a suspect (audience would be mostly upper class since they were the only ones who could afford it)
Idea of everyone being a suspects makes audience feel guilt, like they are to blame.
