What are Jewish teachings on forgiveness?

A
  • Jews believe it is a mitzvah (a divine command or duty) to forgive.
  • The Torah clearly forbids Jews from taking revenge or bearing grudges.
  • Repentance is important. Teshuva (meaning returning to God) is a way of atoning
  • Humans should follow the example of God whose love means he will always forgive
  • Even without an apology, forgiveness is considered a worthy and virtuous act.
