Forests Flashcards
- Write any 3 importance of forest.
Play a vital role in balancing eco system.
• Forest is the Natural Habitat to Many Species in Animal Kingdom
• Forest Prevents Soil Erosion [Trees present in the forests hold the soil particles strongly with the roots and prevent them from erosion.]
• Forest Prevents Pollution
• Forest Regulates The Water Cycle [Plants absorb water from the soil through their roots. The process of releasing excess water by plants into the atmosphere in the form of water vapour is known as transpiration. The process in which water vapour from oceans rises and condenses to form clouds is known as condensation and the process of moving clouds to land due to sea breeze is known as precipitation and this eventually leads to rainfall. All these processes together form the water cycle and hence forests play a significant role in continuing water cycle.]
• Important role of forests in climate change
• Economic importance of forests
• Forests help in preventing global warming. [The increased amount of carbon dioxide (greenhouse gas) in the atmosphere results in the greenhouse effect and thus causes global warming.]
• Forests help in maintaining the temperature and oxygen level of the atmosphere. Plants release oxygen during photosynthesis and consume carbon dioxide. Forests being a huge reserve of plants and trees, they play a significant role in balancing oxygen level in the atmosphere.
- Write any 3 ways for the soil management.
- Afforestation
- Checking Overgrazing
- Constructing Dams [Rivers are known to cause soil erosion. Dams are built in the upper course of the rivers in order to control the erosion of soil.]
- Changing Agricultural Practices (Crop Rotation, Strip Cropping, Early maturing varieties etc.).
- Write any 3 measures of conservation and management of forests.
Cutting and planting trees by making a plan in advance.
Controlling forest and wild fire.
Afforestation and conservation of forests.
Implementation for laws for conservation of forests.
Proper utilization of forest products.
Plant in bare, spare land and slopes.
Controlling forest and wild fire.
- Mention 3 measures of conservation and management of water.
- Conduct campaign for conserving watersheds and snow lakes.
- Banning with the use of poison and electricity.
- Afforestation to protect land from soil erosion, flood and landslide.
- Generating awareness to control misuse and wastage of water.
- Adopting scientific ways for storing and distributing water.
- Proper management for controlling water pollution, storing and transforming surface water in order to conserve water resources.
- Recycling and reusing of polluted water for various purposes.
- Environmental pollution affects ecosystem. Justify this statement.
One of the greatest problems that the world faces today is ‘environmental pollution’. Environmental effects consist of 5 basic types of pollution air, water, soil, noise and light.
Pollution is the addition to the ecosystem of something which has a detrimental effect on it. Although some environmental pollution is a result of natural causes such as volcanic eruptions, most is caused by human activities.
One of the most important causes of pollution is the high rate of energy usage by modern, growing populations. International agreements have also played a role in reducing global pollution. Regulations and legislation have led to considerable progress in pollution in cleaning up some air and water Pollution in developed countries. Nongovernmental citizen groups have formed at the local, national, and international Level to combat pollution problems worldwide. Some key environmental issues affecting the ecosystem: • Pollution. ... • Global warming. ... • Overpopulation. ... • Waste disposal. ... • Ocean acidification. ... • Loss of biodiversity. ... • Deforestation. ... • Ozone layer depletion.
- What is the current situation of forest in Nepal? Write measures for the management and conversation of forest.
Forest is one of the important natural resources of Nepal. Different types of forest are found in Nepal. That is why it is called ‘Green forests are the wealth of Nepal.’
Years ago, most of the land of Nepal was covered with forest but due to population growth people have started to clear the jungle for various purpose like cultivated settlement.
The present situation of forest in Nepal is not encouraging.
The main reason for its destruction is human activities. Human clear the forest for firewood, timber, cultivation etc. Due to this reason, natural balance is distributed. As a result flood, soil erosion, famine are common in Nepal. The fertile land is decreasing. Due to the destruction of forest, many citizens are in trouble and even donot get drinking water.
Previously 60% of Nepal’s land was occupied by forest, today 29% of land is covered with forests. It has been decreasing in its shape and size day by day.
It needs to be saved through education and awareness. We need to make people aware and encourage plantation of sapling.

- Write any 4 effects that is being faced by the present world because of environmental pollution.
Effects/ Impacts of Pollution
1. Health Effects: Adverse air quality can kill many organisms including humans. Ozone pollution can cause respiratory disease, cardiovascular disease, throat inflammation, chest pain, and congestion. Oil spills can cause skin irritations and rashes. Noise pollution induces hearing loss, high blood pressure, stress, and sleep disturbance. Mercury has been linked to developmental deficits in children and neurological symptoms. Older people are majorly exposed to diseases induced by air pollution. Those with heart or lung disorders are under additional risk. Lead and other heavy metals have been shown to cause neurological problems. Chemical and radioactive substances can cause cancer and as well as birth defects.
- Environmental Effects: Pollution also has a dramatic effect on natural resources. Ecosystems such as forests, wetlands, coral reefs, and rivers performs many important services for Earth’s environment, Any or all of the ecosystem functions may be impaired or destroyed by pollution.
- Atmospheric change: The unscientific use of natural resources like water, forest and mineral has resulted many problems in the earth surface. The atmosphere is being polluted due to the global warming, green house effect, increase in the quantity of carbon monoxide and decrease of ozone layer in the atmosphere.
- Natural calamities: The rapid deforestation has resulted uneven, unnatural irregular and scarcity of rainfall. As a result, floods, landslides and storms have become very common in the country like Nepal.
- Economic Issues: The tremendous cost of pollution cleanup and prevention. The global effort to control emissions of carbon dioxide, a gas produced from the combustion of fossil fuels such as coal or oil, or of other organic materials like wood, is one such example.
- Describe about the importance of water and write the measures for conservation and management of water.
Importance of WATER
Scientists theorize that life originated from water, hence nearly all organisms need water to exist and survive. Water also forms the base for all living organisms. As much water is lost from our body, the same or more needs to be replenished.
• Water boots energy. Water delivers important nutrients to all of our cells, especially muscle cells, postponing muscle fatigue.
• Water helps weight loss.
• Water aids in digestion.
• Water detoxifies.
• Water hydrates skin.
Conservation and management of WATER
- Conduct campaign for conserving watersheds and snow lakes.
- Banning with the use of poison and electricity.
- Afforestation to protect land from soil erosion, flood and landslide.
- Generating awareness to control misuse and wastage of water.
- Adopting scientific ways for storing and distributing water.
- Proper management for controlling water pollution, storing and transforming surface water in order to conserve water resources.
- Recycling and reusing of polluted water for various purposes.
- What is conversation and management of forest? What are the efforts made to conserve the forest in the world? Write.

Conserve forests in the WORLD
- Today, more than 100 world leaders have promised to end and reverse deforestation by 2030 at the COP26 UN Climate Change Conference. The pledge, which includes almost $19.2 billion of public and private funds, is a landmark move for nature.
Conserve forests in NEPAL
- Nepal’s government made a progressive change to its forest policy and transferred user rights for a large part of its forests to local communities.
- Today, 34% of Nepal’s forests are managed by more than 22,000 community-forest user groups.
- Today, the program is one of Nepal’s greatest success stories, helping Nepal increase its total forest cover from 25 to 45 percent.
