What is boreal forest? What does it sit between?
Coniferous forest that stretches across Canada. Between the tundra and mixed forests
What is mixed forest?
Vegetation region containing both coniferous and deciduous trees, being the transition zone between boreal and deciduous forest.
What is Canada’s largest forest region?
Boreal Forest
What is clear-cutting?
Logging method where all trees in an area (except for the very small ones) are cut at once.
What is selective cutting?
Where only trees of a certain type, size, and quality are cut.
What is shelterwood logging?
Where up to 70% of trees are cut, leaving small patches of old growth standing to provide seeds for regeneration
What is acid precipitation? What are its impacts on vegetation?
Precipitation that contains high levels of sulphuric and nitric acid. Kills vegetation, turns lakes acidic which causes fish and wildlife to disappear.
What is silviculture?
