what is palor mortis?
paleness of death
what is rigor mortis
stiffness of death
what is livor mortis
blood flowing down
what is algor mortis
change in the body temperature
what is post-mortem lividity
dark purple discolouration due to gravity
what causes rigor mortis
caused by a chemical change in muscles, post-mortem rigidity due to build up of lactic acid –> causing myosin and actin to harden
when is rigor mortis noticed
4-6 hours
how does the ambient temperature affect the body temperature of person
if ambient temp is less than 37 degrees C it takes around 18-20 hours for the body temp to balance with the ambient temperature
what has an affect on the change in temp of the person
- body weight
- clothing
- ambient temp ( air temp)
how is livor mortis caused
- caused by accumulation of blood in vessels in dependent areas due to gravity –> blood vessels are breaking down
