aspects of history -
owner new to practice
discrepancies in contact details or ownership
reluctance to give full history
history inconsistent with injuries
blames someone else for injury
animal is housebound
known or suspected family violence
repetitive injury with multiple incidences of fractures
type of injury -
multiple fractures to different bones
unusual injuries not fitting with owner explanation
behaviour of owner or animal -
owner unwilling to give history, angry or defensive
animal frightened or aggressive
ddx for non-accidental injury
skeletal disorders - osteogenesis imperfecta or metabolic bone disease
blood dyscrasias - underlying blood or clotting disorders
RTA - may be skin abrasions and dirt or oil on coat. RTA injuries usually hips and lung related, NAI usually more cranial
