What was the Mansfled expedition?

A

Buckingham orchestrated an expedition - leading an army to fight its way through Europe to Palatinate, hoping to relieve the area of Catholic forces and return it to Frederick V:

However: the French King demanded Mansfleds army to support him in the Spanish Netherlands first - this was refused.

Loui XIII then refused safe entry to Palatinate and Mansfled army ground to a halt in the Spanish Netherlands, destroyed by disease, hunger and desertion.
