Median Nerve
C6, C7
Action of Pronator Teres
Pronates and Flexes Forearm
Flexor Carpi Radialis
Origin: Medial Epicondyle of Humerus
Insertion: base of 2nd metacarpal
Innervation: Median Nerve C6, C7
Action: flexes and abducts hand at wrist
Palmaris Longus
O: Medial epicondyle of humerus
In: distal half of flexor retinaculum and palmar aporneurosis
Inv: Median Nerve C7, C8
A: flexes hand at wrist, tenses palmar ap.
Flexor Carpi Ulnaris
O: Olecranon and posterior border of Ulna
Ins: pisiform, hook of hamate, 5th metacarpal
Inv: Ulnar nerve, C7, C8
A: flexes and adducts hand at wrist
Flexor Digitorum Superficialis
O: Medial epicondyle of humerus & coronoid process ulna; radial head on oblique line of radius
Ins: shafts of middle phalanges 4 medial fingers
Inv: Median Nerve C7,C8
Action: flexes wrist joint and 4 proximal IC joints
Flexor Digitorum Profundus
O: anterior surface of ulna & Interosseous memb
Ins: bases of distal phalanges 2-5 digits
Inv:
Lateral: (2&3) Median Nerve C8 & T1
Medial: (4&5) Ulnar C8 & T1
A: flexes wrist joint; flexes distal IP joints (2-5)
Flexor Pollicis Longus
O: anterior surface of radius & interosseous memb
Ins: distal phalanx of thumb
Inv: Anterior Interosseous nerve from Median nerve
A: flex wrist, MP & IP joints of thumb
Pronator Quadratus
O: anterior surface of ulna
Ins: anterior surface of radius
Inv: anterior Interosseous nerve from median nerve
A: pronates forearm; deep fibers bind radius and ulna together
- especially when upward thrusts are thransmitted through wrist,
like when falling
