Forces: Scaler & Vector Quantities Flashcards
What are some examples of scaler quantities?
Examples of scaler quantities include:
Mass
Temperature
Speed
Energy
Distance
Time
(distance is a scaler quantity because it gives us no idea about direction)
What is a scaler quantity?
A scaler quantity is a quantity with magnitude (size) only.
(these DO NOT have direction)
What is a vector quantity?
A vector quantity is a quantity with magnitude (size) and direction.
What are some examples of vector quantities?
Examples of vector quantities include:
Displacement
Force
Weight
Momentum
Acceleration
Velocity
(displacement is a vector quantity because it gives us distance in a specific direction)
The blue arrow represents the displacement as it shows the distance and the direction of the vector.
