Forces Fluids Density Flashcards
What is the particle theory
- all matter is made up of tiny particles
- diff. Substances are made of different particles
- particles are always moving and or vibrating
- particles move differently in solids, liquids and gasses
- adding heat makes particles move more or vibrate faster. State of matter changes
What are the 2 different test to check viscosity? Explain.
The bubble test - you time how fast the bubble that is in a tube filled with a liquid reaches the top
Ramp test - you time how fast the liquid flows down the ramp
How can particle theory help us explain density?
The more dense some thing is the more particles it has. The more tightly packed the particles equals more dense
How are mass, weight, and density related?
They all have to do with matter and it’s like properties.
Me describe force
The amount of pressure put on a objet
What is buoyancy
A force that allows and helps objects float. It pulls objects towards the sky and the opposing force is the gravitational force.
How does an PFD differ from a life jacket? How do they work?
PFDs are meant to help floating face up if you pass out where as a life jacket just helps kids learn to float and swim. They keep you above the water but PFD keep you facing up.
What is floating
Occurs when an upper wards force is equal to or greater then the force of gravity pulling down.
