Forces and their effects Flashcards
Define Velocity.
Speed in a given direction.
Define a resultant force.
One force that replaces many forces.
Rearrange F=ma making mass (m) the subject
m=F/a
When two bodies interact, what can you say about the size and direction of the action and reaction force?
Equal and opposite
What will happen to an object’s motion if the resultant force is zero?
Stay at rest, or continue at a constant velocity
What will happen to an objects motion if the resultant force is not zero?
Accelerate or decelerate
State the two factors that will affect the acceleration of an object.
size of resultant force, mass of object
How do all bodies fall in a vacuum?
With constant acceleration (10m/s2 on Earth)
Describe the three phases of what happens to the air resistance on an object as it falls to Earth.
1 - Maximum acceleration, no air resistance. 2 - Acceleration decreases, air resistance increases as speed increases. 3 - The two forces balance, acceleration is zero and terminal velocity reached.
