Forces and Movement Flashcards
When an unbalanced force acts on an object along/against the line in which the object is moving
The object will accelerate/decelerate
The bigger the unbalanced force
The bigger the acceleration
Same force but different mass
Smaller object will have larger acceleration. Bigger object will have smaller acceleration.
Same mass but different force
Larger force will have larger acceleration. Smaller force will have smaller acceleration.
Force =
mass x acceleration (F=ma)
Stopping distance
Sum of the thinking distance and braking distance
Thinking distance and factors that affect it
The thinking distance is the time before the brakes are applied. It can be affected by tiredness, drugs and poor visibility. Distance traveled depends on the speed of the vehicle.
Braking distance and factors that affect it
The distance traveled after the brakes have been applied. It is affected by brake and tire condition and the condition of the road surface.
