FORCES AND KINEMATICS (Powerpoint One) Flashcards
Define Kinesiology
The study of human movement!!
What is structural Kinesiology?
The study of muscles, bones, and joints and their contribution to movement
Define Kinematics
describes space and time component of motion
with no concern for the force causing the motion
Kinetics
Describes the forces acting on a system
Functional Anatomy
study of body parts of components that are needed to preform a human movement of function
What is a force?
What is the unit of force?
What is a force known as?
- a push or a pull
- Newtons! 1kg x 1m per second squared=.225 lbs
- A vector
Internal forces? what is it generated by?
External forces?
Internal- creating movement internally inside your body, generated by the muscle contractions
External-outside your body, on to your body
what is a contact force?
a force made on contact
For every force there has to be an equal and opposite direction opposed to it.
what is a friction force?
parallel to the two surfaces in contact and opposes motion or sliding between the surfaces
when does movement occur?
when contact forces exceed friction forces
Is there friction in a pool?
why not?
no friction walking or jumping in a pool!
jumping in a pool displaces the force, no equal and opposite direction
What is the equation for weight?
W=mg
Weight = mass x acceleration due to gravity
What is the force of gravity?
9.81 meters per second squared!
What effect does gravity have on an object? if you drop a ball what happens to its speed?
does gravity have a different effect on objects?
What causes some things to travel down slow compared to others?
> every second its accelerating more than it has before, the longer it is exposed to gravity the faster it drops
its velocity increases exponentially
Nope the same effect on different objects
WIND RESISTANCE
What book would require more force to push? a flat textbook or a standing textbook?
The flat textbook bc there is more surface area.
