Anatomical Movement Terminology Flashcards
Anatomical Position
The terminology to define positions directions and what plane they are in
3 Planes of motion
Sagittal
Frontal
Transverse
Sagittal Plan is where
> divides the body in left and right, with a line directly through the midline.
Movements occur ahead and behind, front and back of body, showing FLEXION AND EXTENTION
Axis of rotation for sagittal plane is
Mediolateral axis
Frontal Plane
Divides the body into anterior and posterior
Posterior
Back of body
Anterior
Front of body
Movements in the frontal plan occuur how
Medial and Lateral
Abduction
Adduction
Abduction= away from the midline
adduction=towards the midline
Axis of rotation is called
Anteroposterior axis
Transverse Plane
Divides the body into superior and inferior portions
superior =upper
Inferior =lower
Movement here happen in rotation parallel to the ground
Axis of rotation for transverse plane is
longitudinal axis
