Q

Do forces only make objects move?

A

No, forces can also make objects CHANGE SHAPE. Whether they change temporarily or permanently depends on the object and the forces applied.

Q

What does it mean when an object is elastically deformed?

A

Q

How does an object stretch, compress or bend?

A

When MORE THAN ONE force is acting on the object, otherwise the object would just move in the direction of the applied force. (If only one force was acting upon it)

Q

Is extension directly or indirectly proportional to force in springs?

A

Extension is DIRECTLY PROPORTIONAL to force in springs.
(F = ke) The spring constant (k), depends on the material that you are stretching- a stiffer spring has a greater SPRING CONSTANT.
