Forces and acceleration Flashcards
What does the relationship F = ma mean ?
It means that for an object to accelerate it will need a resultant force to act upon it
What will happen when the resultant force is along the direction of motion
It will either accelerate or decelerate the body
What will happen when the resultant force is at an angle ?
It will change the direction of the body
what is the definition of a Newton ?
It is the forces that will allow 1kg to accelerate by one ms^-2
what is the definition of resultant force ?
Resultant force is defined as the vector sum of all the forces acting on the body
In terms of acceleration what will happen if the resultant force is is the same direction as the motion ?
the acceleration will be positive
In terms of acceleration what will happen if the resultant force is is opposite direction as the motion ?
the acceleration will be negative
