Forces Flashcards
What are the contact forces?
Friction.
Pull.
Air resistance.
Push.
What are the non contact forces?
Gravity.
Magnetism.
Electrostatic.
What are the vectors?
Velocity.
Displacement.
Acceleration.
Deceleration.
What are the scalars?
Speed.
Distance.
Time.
What is Hooke’s law?
The extension of a spring directly proportional to the force applied, as long as the limit of proportionality has been reached.
What is force measured in?
Newtons.
What does mass depend on?
The quantity of matter in it.
What is mass measured in?
Kilograms.
What is weight?
The force acting on the object due to gravity.
What is weight measured in?
Newtons.
What do you use to measure weight?
Newton-meter.
What is the equation for constant speed?
distance travelled, s (metres, m)
Speed, v (metres per second, m/s)=_______________________________
time taken, t (seconds, s)
What is velocity?
Speed in a given direction. Two moving objects could have the same speed but different velocities.
Is there velocity in an object moving round in a circle?
Object moving round in a circle has direction of motion that changes continuously as it goes round. so its velocity is not constant even if its speed is constant.
What is acceleration?
Change in velocity
Acceleration, a (metres per second, m/s2)=_______________________
Time taken for the change
