Force Flashcards
Define force
Force is not a thing, but it acts on the object, and it has effects or to accelerate
- force can be represented by arrows
Effects of force on an object
The object may:
- Change its direction
- Deforms (changes its size, shape)
- Chane an object’s speed
What is “contact force” and examples
The force that is made by two or more objects touching
Examples:
- Friction
- When you stop your motion completely by crashing into the door
What is “non-contact” force
The force that can be made without the contact of 2 or more objects
Examples:
- Gravity
- Magnetism
- Electrostatic forces
What is the beautiful formula that links Force, Mass, and Acceleration?
Force = Mass x Acceleration
* F = ma *
What’s harder to push, a soccer ball or a car?
Soccer ball because it has less matter (less mass) than the car, therefore easier to push
When does the 0 resultant force happen?
When opposition forces are balanced
-> no resultant force -> no acceleration
———————–
=> “moving at a constant speed” or “stay at rest”
Another word for unbalance force
resultant force :0
