Foramen and Cranial Nerves Flashcards
CN7 (where does it exit skull, branches)
Exits via internal aucoustic meatus and then through the stylomastoid foramen. If then divides into terminal branches at the parotid:
- Ten: temporal
- Zebras: zygomatic
- Broke: buccal
- My: marginal
- Car: cervical
What nerves exit foramen rotundum and ovale and lacerum
Rotundum: V2
Ovale: V3
Lacerum: petrosal nerve (taste)
What nerves exit the superior orbital fissure (and bonus 2 other structures), and what bony boundaries is it bound by?
CNIII (occulomotor)
CN IV (trochlear)
CN V1 (opthalmic)
CN VI (abducens)
ALSO: superior opthalmic vein, symnpathetic fibers
Bound by the greater and lesser sphenoid wings
Which cranial nerves exit through the jugular foramen?
CN XI (glossopharyngeal)
CN X (vagus)
CN XI (spinal accessory)
CN VIII exits skull via
Internal aucoustic meatus
CN XII
Hypoglossal nerve, exits via hypoglossal canal
What are 3 foramen in the sphenoid bone?
Superior orbital fissure, rotundum, ovale, spinosum (remember: manta ray and bat; woman steps on bat wing in high heel)
What does the foramen rotundum connect?
The pterygopalatine fossa to the temporal lobe! (PPF -> foramen rotundum -> temporal lobe
