What is the objective of flag football?
To score points by moving the ball down the field across the goal line.
How many players are on each team in flag football?
5-8 players.
What is the typical size of a flag football playing field?
60-80 yards long and 20-30 yards wide.
What marks the end of the playing field?
A goal line leading into a 10-yard end zone.
How is the team that kicks off determined?
By a coin toss prior to the opening kick-off.
What happens at half-time in flag football?
Teams change ends.

What actions can players perform to move the ball up the field?
Kick, carry, and throw the ball.
What happens if a defender knocks down a pass?
The pass is considered incomplete.
When is a player called ‘down’?
When his flag is pulled or he goes out of bounds.
What defines a ‘down’ in flag football?
The period from when the center puts the ball into play until the ball becomes dead.
How many downs does a team have to advance the ball 10 yards?
4 downs.
What happens if a team fails to advance 10 yards in 4 downs?
The ball is given to the other team at the point it became dead.
What is the line of scrimmage?
An imaginary line passing through the end of the football nearest to the team, extending from sideline to sideline.
What is the ‘neutral zone’?
The area between the lines of scrimmage, the length of the football.
What is a ‘snap’?
A backward pass through the legs of the center that puts the ball into play.
What are the requirements for a snap?
Must be one quick and continuous motion, and the snapper can’t move his feet or lift a hand until after the ball is snapped.
What must other players do during the snap?
Stay still until the ball is snapped.
What is prohibited during the snap?
Entering the neutral zone or moving toward the opponent’s goal line.
To whom must the snap be directed?
To a player behind the line of scrimmage, unless it touches the ground.
What must shirts do in relation to the flag belt?
Shirts must be tucked in and not hang down over the flag belt
When is a player considered down if they lose their flag belt?
If touched with one hand by a defender between the shoulders and the knees
What must a player have before their flag can legally be pulled?
The ball
What is the penalty for intentionally pulling a flag from an offensive player without the ball?
Personal foul with a 10-yard penalty
Is guarding the flag belt allowed?
No, guarding the flag belt is not allowed
What is prohibited for runners to prevent opponents from pulling their flag?
Using any part of their body or the ball
What happens on 4th down if the offensive team decides to punt?
The defense isn’t allowed to penetrate the line of scrimmage on the snap
Where must all members of the punting team be during a punt?
On the line of scrimmage
What occurs if a punt touches a player and then hits the ground?
The ball is dead and possession goes to the receiving team
Can a runner make a backward pass at any time?
Yes, a runner can make a backward pass at any time
What must a passer be behind when releasing a forward pass?
The line of scrimmage
What happens if a player is in the air while attempting to catch a ball?
He must land with at least 1 foot in bounds
