foot osteology Flashcards
why would you take a foot and a toe x ray
toe - crush and stab injuries abd foreign bodies
Foot:
fractured metatarsals
fractured base of 5th matatarsal (jones fracture)
what is hallux valgus
this is deformity of the foot due to pressure from footware
there is lateral deviation of the great toe/big toe
what is the top and the bottom of the foot reffered to as
top - dorsum/ dorsl aspect
sole - plantar aspect of the foot
which projections are normally taken for a foot and toe x ray
DP and DP Oblique
describe the positioning , collimation and centring required for a DP foot x ray
patient seated on x ray table with knee and hip flexed with plantar aspect of the foot in contact with the IR
centre at the navicular and collimate to include the distal phalanges, the cacalneus and the lateral and medial soft tissue margins of the foot
describe the positioning, collimation and centring for a dp oblique foot xray
patient sat on xray table with hip and knee flexed
plantar aspect of the foot in contact with the IR with foot internally rotated 30 degrees
centering at the navicular region with collimation including the lateral and medial soft margins of the foot, the distal phalanges, and the cacalneus
what is the dp foot imaging criteria
phalanges, metatarsals, navicular and cuneiform bones demonstrated
lateral and medial soft tissue margins viewed
overlapping of the tarsal bones
hwne would you take a lateral foot x ray
when you want to check the alignment of the tarsal bones
describe the positioning collimation and centring for a lateral foot x ray
patient seated at the xray table with plantar spect of the foot in contac t with the imaghe receptor with knee and hip flexed
patients foot is rotated 90 degrees externally
centring at the medial aspect of the foot witrh collimation including the distal phalanges, cacalneus and the lateral and medial soft tissue margins of the foot
what is the imaging criteria for a lateral foot
all bones of the foot demonstrated
metatarsal bones overlaping
sharp image demonstrating superimposed phalanges
