Foot orthoses Flashcards
1
Q
cushion heel
A
cushions and absorbs forces at heel contact
- used to receive strain on plantar fascia in plantar fasciitis
2
Q
MT pad
A
- located posterior to MT heads
- moves pressure from the MT heads to the MT shafts
- allows more push off in weak or inflexible feet
3
Q
longitudinal arch support
A
- prevents depression of the subtalar joint and correct for pes planus
- can be flexible or rigid
4
Q
UCBL insert
A
semi-rigid plastic molded insert to correct for flexible pes planus
5
Q
scaphoid pad
A
- used to support the longitudinal arch
6
Q
rear foot posting
A
- altered the position of the subtalar joint from heel strike to foot flat
- must be dynamic, control but not eliminate STJ motion
7
Q
Varus post
A
- on medial side of foot
- limits/controls eversion of the calcaneus and internal rotation of the tibia after heel strike
- reduces calcañal eversion during running
8
Q
valgus post (lateral wedge)
A
- controls calcaneus and subtalar joints that are excessive inverted and supinated at heel strike
9
Q
forefoot posting
A
- supports forefoot
- medial wedge for forefoot varus
- lateral wedge for forefoot valgus
10
Q
heel lift
A
- to accommodate for leg length discrepancy
- accommodates for limitation in ankle joint DF
11
Q
rocker bar
A
- do not use in insensate foot
- located proximal to MT heads; improves weight shift onto Mts
12
Q
rocker bottom
A
builds up the sole over the MT heads and improves push off in weak or inflexible feet
