Foot MM Flashcards
Intrinsic
Extensor Digitorum Brevis
O: Lateral surface of calcaneus
I: with tendons of extensor digitorum longus to 2-4th digits
A: Extends the 2-4th toes at the MTP joints assists in extension of the IP joints in 2-4 digits
N: Deep peroneal nerve (Fibular)
Intrinsic
Extensor Hallucis Brevis
O: Surfaces of the Calcaneus
I: Dorsal surface of the base of the proximal phalanx of digit 1
A: Extends the MTP jont of the 1st digit
N: Deep peroneal (fibular) nerve
Layer 1
Abductor Hallucis
O: Medial process of the tuberosity of the calcaneus
I: Medial side of the base of the proximal phalanx of the great toe, some fibers attached to the medial sesmoid bone
A: Abducts and assists in flexion of the MTP of the great toe and assist with adduction of the forefoot
N: Medial Plantar Nerve via Tibial nerve
Layer 1
Abductor Digiti Minimi

I: Base of proximal phalanx of digit 5
A: Adduction of the little toe
N: Lateral Plantar nerve vis tibial nerve
Layer 1
Flexor Digitorum Brevis
O: Medial process of the tuberosity of the calcaneus, central part of plantar aponeurosis & adjacent intermuscular septum
I: Middle Phalanx of 2-5 digits
A: Flexes the proximal IP joints and assists in flexion of the MTP joint in 2-5 digits.
N: Medial Plantar nerve via tibial nerve
Layer 2
Quadratus Plantae
O: Medial surface of the calcaneus; lateral border of the plantar surface of the caalcaneus
I: Lateral margin and dorsal plantar surface of tendon for flexor digitorum longus
A: Modifies the line of full for flexor digitorum longus
N: Lateral Plantar nerve
Layer 2
Lumbricals
O: 1: medial side of the 1st flexor digitorum longus tendon
2: from adjacent sides of the 1st and 2nd flexor digitorum longus tendons
3: from adjacent sides of the 2nd &3rd flexor digitorum longus tendons
4: from the adjacent sides of the 3rd &4th flexor digitorum tendons
I: medial side of the proximal phalanx & dorsal expansion of the extensor digitorum longus
A: Flexes the MTP and assists in extending IP joints of 2-5 digits
N: 1: Medial plantar nerve
2-4: lateral plantar nerve
Layer 3
Flexor Halucis Brevis
O: Medial part of plantar surface of cuboid bone, adjacent part of the lateral cuneiform bone

Layer 3
Adductor Hallucis
O: bases of 2-4th metatarsals; plantar MTP ligaments of 3-5th digits
I: Lateral side of the base of proximal phalanx of digit 1
A: Adducts and assists on flexing the MTP joints of digit 1.
N: Lateral plantar nerve
Layer 4
Plantar Interossei
O: Bases and medial sides of the bodies of the 3-5th metatarsal bones.
I: Medial sides of the bases of the proximal phalanges of the same digit
A: Adducts 3rd, 4th, and 5th digits toward the axial line through the 2nd digit, assists in flexion of the MTP joints and may assist in extension of IP joints of 3,4 &5th digits.
N: Lateral plantar nerve
Layer 4
Dorsal Interossei
O: by 2 heads to adjacent metatarsal bones
I: Side of proximal phalanx and capsule of MTP joint
1: to medial side of the 2nd digit
2-4 to the lateral sides of the 2-4 digits
A: abducts the 2-4th digits from axial line through the 2nd digit, assists on flexion of the MTP Joint and may assist in extension of the IP joints of 2-4th digit.
N: Lateral Plantar nerve
