CHOP
To cut something into pieces with an axe, knife, or other sharp instrument.
E.g Laura had her hair chopped (= cut) yesterday.
STIR
To mix a liquid or other substance by moving an object such as a spoon in a circular pattern.
E.g She paused to stir some milk into her coffee.
GRATE
To rub food against a grater in order to cut it into a lot of small pieces.
E.g Grated cheese.
PEEL
To remove the skin of fruit and vegetables.
E.g Peel, core, and chop the apples.
BAKE
To cook inside an oven, without using added liquid or fat.
E.g Bake at 180°C for about 20 minutes.
BOIL
To reach, or cause something to reach, the temperature at which a liquid starts to turn into a gas.
E.g If you give water to a small baby to drink, you have to boil it first.
FRY
To cook food in hot oil or fat.
E.g Fry the mushrooms in a little butter.
GO THROUGH STH
To examine something that contains a collection of things carefully in order to organize them or find something.
E.g I always go through the label before buying any product.
TOOK UP / TO
To start doing a particular job or activity.
E.g As he turned 30, he took up doing physical .exercise.
BRING ABOUT
To make something happen.
E.g Adopting healthy eating habits will bring about a change in your mood.
FALL INTO
To be able to be devided into several groups, categories, parts, etc.
E.g Vegetarians fall into three groups: lacto-vegetarian, ovo-vegetarian and vegetarians.
CARRY ON
To continue doing something.
E.g If you carry on eating healthy, you will improve your health
PUTS AWAY
To store things where they are usually stored.
E.g She puts away sweets in a lock cupboard to avoid eating them.
CUT OUT
To stop eating something or doing something, especially because it is bad for your health
I’ve cut out.
E.g As she turned vegan, she cut out animals products all together.
PUT ON
If you put on weight, you become fatter.
E.g Since she suffers from emotional eating, she has put on weight.
