A
  • aim to ensure all Irish produced food is safe to eat + of food quality
  • provides advice to ministers, food industries and consumers on food safety matters
  • enforces food legislation

The FSAI will provide :

A
  • improvement notice : issued when the premises will or is likely to pose a risk to safety/ hygiene e.g notice- get 2 sinks one for washing hands only, other for food. The premises can open once the improvement is made.
  • closure order! Issued if there is or is likely to be a grave and immediate danger to public health. All or part of the premises must close immediately.

Health service executives (HSE)

A

Implements food safety and hygiene legislation via environmental health officers (EHO’s ) who :
Carry out routine inspections in food establishments
Deal with complaints about suspected food poising cases
Issue improvement notices about closure orders
Educates and advices businesses to ensure compliance with food safety and hygiene laws
