What does food provenance help to do
-protect the environment
-increase food traceability, food can be traced from farm to fork
-assists consumers in eating a more seasonal diet
-improve animal welfare
How food is grown

-sowing seeds
Intensive farming
Usually involves a large scale operation which priorities profitability and efficiency
-High yield crops
-Pesticides used
-Chemical fertilisers used to enrich soils
-Mechanised agriculture
Organic farming
Focuses on producing food in ways that minimise harm to environment or animals
-crop rotation linked to seasons
-hand weeding and natural pesticides
-animals are given space to move freely, free range
-labour intensive agriculture
Types of fish
Selfish: white fish: oily fish:
-crab -cod -salmon
-prawn - haddock -trout
-mussels - sea bass -tuna
Fishing methods
Dredging- metals frames raked along the sea bed to release shellfish
Trawling- dragging a net through schools of fish
Line caught- small or large scale baited hooks
Pots and creels- baited pots to trap shelfish
