What do the percent daily values (percentages next to each nutrient listed) tell me?
They tell me if this product is high or low in that nutrient.
Why is it important to know how many servings are in the product?
It is important to know how many servings there are in that product bc it tells u how many people it can feed.
Where do I find information on vitamins/minerals?
Under the 3rd thick black on the nutrition facts label.
What is the Danger Zone for certain foods (which foods?)
Bacteria multiply very rapidly. Room temperature is in this zone (60-125 degrees F)
Foods that can be affected are meats, certain fruits, dairy products, etc.
What are some ways to prevent hazards (cuts/burns/fires) in the kitchen?
Some ways to prevent hazards in the kitchen are to never leave the stove unattended, keep the kitchen to a kid-free zone, turn the handles of a pot or pan to the back of the stove, and to keep a fire extinguisher near.
What is cross-contamination & how do we avoid it?
cross-contamination is harmful bacteria that is transferred from one food or surface to another. You can avoid it by washing ur hands with hot soapy water, after you can also disinfect cutting boards
Recall some ways to keep yourself & your food safe/clean.
You can clean serving plates, don’t cross-contaminate, use sauces carefully, always keep an eye on children, keep hot food hot and cold food cold, etc.
What information does a recipe give us? Explain.
A recipe gives us these 6 things:
-ingredients/amounts
-directions
-time/temperature
-name
-servings/yield
-equipment
Why is it important to follow step-by-step instructions carefully when reading a recipe?
It is important to follow a recipe step by step because if you don’t you could miss a step and screw the whole thing up. Then you’d have to start again.
How do you properly set a table (location of items)?
- Put place mat or table clothe under all objects
- dinner plate in center
- Bread plage in the top left corner
- Water glass in the top right corner
- dinner knife on the right, closest to the dinner plate
- Spoon is right of the dinner knife
- Cup & saucer to the right of the spoon
- Dinner fork to the left, closest to the dinner plate
- salad fork the the left of the dinner fork
- Napkin the the left of the salad fork or on the dinner plate
What are some positive social skills (manners) that are appropriate at the table?
Some positive social skills that r appropriate are chewing w/ mouth closed, engaging in conversation, no elbows on the table during meal, keep the same speed eating as everyone else at the meal, etc.
Why is it important to use table manners?
it important to use table manners bc it is respectful to the people at the meal, and sometimes this is the only time you get to see these people.
