A situation that exists when people lack secure access to sufficient amounts of safe and nutritious food for normal growth and development and an active healthy life.

Seasonal food insecurity
Refers to a sudden drop in the ability to purchase or grow enough food to meet physiological requirements for good health and activity.
Transitory food insecurity
Occurs when there is a cyclical pattern of inadequate availability and access to food.
Seasonal food insecurity
Exists when households are unable to meet food needs because they lack sufficient income, land or productive assets.
Chronic food insecurity
This food insecurity is associated with seasonal fluctuations in the climate, cropping patterns, work opportunities (labor demand)
and disease.
Seasonal food insecurity
This food insecurity exists when households experience high dependency ratios, chronic sickness or social barriers.

An uncomfortable or painful sensation caused by inefficient food consumption.
Hunger
Results from deficiencies, excess or imbalances in the consumption of macro/ micronutrients.
Malnutrition
Malnutrition is an outcome of:
- food insecurity
- inadequate care practices for children
- insufficient health services
- an unhealthy environment -
Result of prolonged low level of food intake and/or low absorption of food consumed.
Undernutrition
The status of a person whose food intake regularly provides less than their minimum energy requirements.
Undernourishment or Chronic Hunger
A broad term for a range of conditions that hinder good health, caused by inadequate or unbalanced food intake or from poor absorption of food consumed.
