Acute food allergy (IgE mediated) 3 step management
A
- At first sign of reaction - chlorphenamine & If asthmatic & wheezing - inhaler
- Not resolving/ worsening after 30 mins - prednisolone & call for help
- If becomes blue/ collapses - IM adrenaline & call 999

Food allergy vs intolerance
A
Food allergy - adverse immune response to food
- IgE mediated (immediate onset <2hrs)
- Non-IgE mediated (delayed onset)
Food intolerance - adverse non-immune response to food

Which symptoms do the two types of food allergy affect
A
Both affect the skin & GI system
Only IgE mediated (immediate onset) allergies affect the respiratory system
