Describe the three types of melanocytic naevi and how they appear
Flat, brown - junctional melanocytic naevi
Raised, brown - compound melanocytic naevi
Raised, skin coloured/ light brown - intradermal m. naevia
What are blue naevi
Proliferation of melanocytes in deep dermis
What are seborrheic keratosis
Non-malignant proliferation of skin, mainly keratinocytes. Normal with age.
What is dermatosis papulosa nigra
variant of seborrheic keratosis in coloured skin
What are dermatofibromas
Firm nodule on the skin, usually of the lower leg
Usually involves fibroblasts of the dermis
What are sebaceous cysts
What are acrochordon’s
Diffuse, well defined - deeper down in the skin e.g. lipoma
Raised, sticking out - superficial e.g. sebaceous cyst
What is a haemangioma
‘Red blobs’ under microscope
Caused by an overgrowth of blood vessels
What is a pyogenic granuloma
Overgrowth of blood vessels & granulation tissue
I.e. excessive healing process
Can bleed excessively
What are lipomas
What is a keratoachantoma
Rapid growth, present like SCC
Will suddenly stop growing & shrink
