All living things need food.
Food is divided into how many nutrient groups?
Seven
The seven nutrient groups are:-
Carbohydrates, Proteins, Fats, Vitamins, Minerals, Water and Fibre
In order to remain healthy a person must eat what?
A balanced diet
What is a balanced diet?
Eating the correct amount from each of the 7 nutrient groups to suit an individual lifestyle.
What is malnutrition?
An unbalanced diet resulting from not eating enough or eating too much of a particular nutrient group.
How much of the world’s population is malnourished?
Approximately two thirds of the world’s population
What is starvation?
This is when an individual does not eat enough of any food.
Starvation causes what?
Tiredness and wasting diseases
Where in the world is starvation most common?
In developing countries
What happens to individuals who take in too much energy either by eating too much or eating the wrong type of food?
They become obese
Name one health related disadvantage of being obese (carrying extra weight)?
The individual would be more at risk of suffering a heart attack because the heart has to work harder to pump blood to tissue therefore putting a strain on the heart.
Name two good sources of carbohydrate?
Sugars and starch
In what food or drink would we find carbohydrate in the form of sugar?
Lactose from milk and sugars from natural fruit
