What are food deserts?
Where it is hard to buy good quality food in a poor and urban area. Problems occur with affordability, availability, and access.
Low income/ mobility
(Smith and Cummins, 2009). If poor, person will not have a car, so mobility is limited therefore limiting where they can shop. Often need to be able to drive to a shop that sells good quality food
Low income/ cost
(Dowler et al., 2011) Food prices have been rising since 2007 as UK’s food system is based on internationally traded food stuffs and industrially produced agricultural goods.
