What is the purpose of carbohydrates?
They act as fuel for your body, giving you energy.
What is the purpose of proteins?
They are vital for growth and repair.
What is the purpose of lipids?
They are a store of energy which your body can use if you run out of carbohydrates. They also help keep you insulated.
What is the purpose of fibre?
It helps food move through your digestive system.
What is scurvy and what causes it?
It is a disease which causes problems with the skin and gums, and it is caused by a lack of vitamin C.
What is the technical term for your food pipe?
Oesophagus.
What does the liver do?
It makes bile which breaks fat into tiny droplets.
What happens in the large intestine?
Water is absorbed.
What happens in the pancreas?
The pancreas produces 3 enzymes, protease, carbohydrase and lipase.
How do food molecules in the small intestine get absorbed into your blood?
They go through small, finger like projections called villi.
