FOM CH 8 flight planning Flashcards
How long past the time the OFP is received before Flight crew must confirm the NOTAMS and Weather are still Valid
> 2hrs
Under Modified Flight watch What changes to OPF require a Revisions (6)
1) FIN Fleet Identification Number
2) Routing
3) Fuel Requirments
4) Alternate
5) MEL
6) No load final information
When does final decisions on any changes to OFP fall to the PIC
Once Take off Thrust has been applied
What has to be done to use minima predicated on a Missed Approach Climb Gradient.
Verify prior to to commencing the approach, that the one eng inoperative climb gradient can be met at the planned landing weight.
What altitude terrain clearence is considered successful and what will the OFP say?
If aircraft is capable of maintaining a factored level-off altitude that is at least 1,000 ft above terrain.
OPF will say
- Terrain clearance check - Complete with no limitations
Where can you find the location of the critical sector?
OFP waypoint MORA Min Off Route Altitude. (the first instance where the altitude in the terrain check equals the MORA on the OFP)
What does RAIM INTERFACE FAILURE mean?
Advises that the P-RAIM check was not completed successfully.
Can a flight be dispatched without a valid TAF for Destination at the ETA?
YES, provided
1 - The OFP shows a valid TAF for the selected ALTernates
2- There are no known factors precluding a safe landing at the destination
How long of a delay experienced before Dispatch has to re-assess the conditions of the OPF?
delay of 2 hours or more
(they will include the reason for the change)
What do we have to remember about an inflight OFP?
That the fuel will only reflect the required to destination plus the Reserve and Alternate fuels and does not include any additional fuels that were originally boarded.
What is Protected Fuel? (6)
Fuel amount planned to be available over a specific point (over dest over alt)
Fuels that are always protected:
CONT 5 MIN
Reserve
Altn
Supp
NAIFR SAP
ETOPS
SDTO
What is the definition of unprotected fuel?
Fuel boarded with the assumption that some of it will be consumed en route as a result of carrying its own weight.
How is ALTN fuel calculated?
based on cost index of 0 and the distance the aircraft will travel from the threshold of the planned landing runway at the destination to the planned landing runway of the alternate airport via the published SID, enroute, and STAR/FMS routing.
What factors should PIC consider when deciding to consume some of the ALTN fuel to land at the destination airport? (3)
What has to be done after landing?
1- Availability of more than one usable runway
2- Forecast and actual weather
3- Traffic congestion
(Dispatch must be advised and ASR filed)
BURN fuel?
The fuel burned over the distance traveled from the take off point to the specified runway to the destination runway via the planned SID, enroute and STAR/FMS routing
CONT fuel
Is the fuel required to compensate for factors that could not be foreseen during flight planning.
(used to mitigate the risks associated with factors that cannot be planned)
Usually 5% of the BURN to a min of 5 min amount of fuel sufficient to fly for
five minutes at holding speed, at the estimated landing weight,at 1,500 feet ASL
or
ACF analyzed contingency fuel
5% of BURN of historical flights over last 2 years.
How is CONT fuel determined exactly? Sample size?
CONT fuel is calculated using Analyzed Contingency Fuel (ACF) method on the size of the BURN deviaiton of historical flights over 2 years.
(when sample size is small 5% of the BURN value for the flight)
ETOPS defn
Extended-range Twin-engine Operation Fuels
LIDO assumes some of the planned CONT fuel will be available at the ETOPS critical point for ETOPS diversion purposes.
For example, if the most critical point is 3/4 of the way along the route, then it assumes 1/4 of CONT fuel is available at that critical point.
ETOPS fuel?
Fuel to ensure ETOPS diversion fuel requirements are met (A220 60/75 min)
What are some Extra fuels (3)
TKG - Tankering LIDO tankering program for commercial reasons
OPN - Operational fuel is extra fuel requested by the PIC for known or forecasted factors.
XFOB - Extra Fuel on-board fuel that was preboarded and a FIN swap takes place.
What is the fuel requirement for NAIFR SAP A220?
NAIFR SAP
450 kg (12 min of fuel for a missed approach and a second approach at the destination at Max landing weight 57,833 at 1,500 ASL in ISA conditions).
2nd Approach Calculation:
• Min landing weight: 43,000 kg to max landing weight: 57,833 kg (20nm downwind)
• 2nd Approach Fuel: 350 kg to 450 kg
RESERVE fuel aprox and defn
• 880 kg
Definition is the fuel required to hold for 30 min at the destination at estimated landing weight and 1,500 ASL in ISA conditions. (Based on max landing weight: 57,883 kg)
(Burning into fuel RESERVES requires a Mayday for Fuel emergency)
SUPP Fuel
Supplementary fuel is to ensure planned min fuel is available over destination.
