Q

How is ALTN fuel calculated?

A

based on cost index of 0 and the distance the aircraft will travel from the threshold of the planned landing runway at the destination to the planned landing runway of the alternate airport via the published SID, enroute, and STAR/FMS routing.

Q

CONT fuel

A

Is the fuel required to compensate for factors that could not be foreseen during flight planning.

(used to mitigate the risks associated with factors that cannot be planned)

Usually 5% of the BURN to a min of 5 min amount of fuel sufficient to fly for
five minutes at holding speed, at the estimated landing weight,at 1,500 feet ASL

or

ACF analyzed contingency fuel
5% of BURN of historical flights over last 2 years.

17
Q

How is CONT fuel determined exactly? Sample size?

A

CONT fuel is calculated using Analyzed Contingency Fuel (ACF) method on the size of the BURN deviaiton of historical flights over 2 years.

(when sample size is small 5% of the BURN value for the flight)

Q

ETOPS defn

A

Extended-range Twin-engine Operation Fuels

LIDO assumes some of the planned CONT fuel will be available at the ETOPS critical point for ETOPS diversion purposes.

For example, if the most critical point is 3/4 of the way along the route, then it assumes 1/4 of CONT fuel is available at that critical point.
