The conjunctions and, but, and or can be used to form compound subjects or compound predicates.
Ex. Miriam and Rachel have finished their work.
They may sew or read.
Rachel is not sewing but reading.

What is a simple sentence? Give examples.
A simple sentence has only one skeleton. It may have a compound subject or a compound predicate, but it is still a simple sentence.
Ex. Joan washed the dishes. (Simple subject and predicate)
Joan washed and dried the dishes. (Simple subject, compound predicate)
Joan and Judy washed and dried the dishes. (Compound subject, compound predicate)
What is a compound sentence? Give an example.
A compound sentence is made of two simple sentences joined by a comma and a conjunction.
Ex. Joan washed the dishes, and Judy dried them.
A comma splice is the mistake of joining two simple sentences with only a comma.
What is a run-on sentence?
A run-on sentence is made when two simple sentences are written together without a conjunction, and sometimes even without a comma.
