What is a sentence?
A sentence is a group of words that expresses a complete thought.
What two things do you have to have in a sentence to make it one?
It needs to have a subject and a predicate.
What is a fragment?
A fragment is a group of words that do not express a complete thought.
List the to be verbs.
am, is, are, was, were, be, being, been
List the sometimes linking verbs.
taste, smell, feel, sound, look, appear
List the linking (helping) verbs.
have, has, had, do, does, did, shall, will, should, would, may, might, must, can, could, ought
What is the simple predicate?
It is the verb or verb phrase in the sentence.
What is the complete predicate?
It includes the verb and all of the words that go with it to tell about the subject.
What does a subject do?
It tells who or what the sentence is about.
What does a predicate do?
It tells what the subject is or does.
What is a pronoun?
A pronoun is a word that takes place of a noun.
List the subject pronouns.
