FOCUSING TECHNIQUES Flashcards
Depth of Field
area of focus
Moving closer and DoF
shallow depth of field, blur the background
Longer Focal Length and DoF
shallow depth of field, blur the background
Smaller Aperture (f11) and DoF
Large depth of field, more area in focus
- HYPER FOCAL DISTANCE
everything beyond this distance can be acceptable focus.
App used to calculate Hyper Focal Distance.
PHOTOPILL
LARGE HYPER FOCAL DISTANCE
Wide angle (24mm) and small Aperture (f14).
Set the camera focus to 1/3 distance in the scene.
Landscape.
Use tripod.
Slower Shutter Speed.
What is DIFFRACTION and the cause
(bending of waves)
f16 and smaller aperture
What is FOCUS STACKING, when to use?
Dark scenes, because will need aperture wide open to f2.8.
Use lightroom to combine.
Several images with shallow depth of field and combined into one.
PORTRAIT/WILDLIFE
We want the eye to be in focus. We want to use large focal length (200mm) and wide aperture(f2.8) for shallow depth of field.
Spot AF would be good focus point to use.
Use SERVO and shoot in BURST for moving subject.
PREFOCUS for unpredictable moving subjects
Focus on a close area to where the subject will go and the camera will pick it up faster.
Mirrorless – focus a little closer to you and not the background.
