What is Periodization?
Systematic planning of long and short term training + testing in prep for combat
What are the 5 training periods?
Base, build, taper, combat, and recovery
What are the 3 training cycles?
Microcycle, mesocycle, and macrocycle
What length is the microcycle?
Between 2 and 14 days
What length is the mesocycle?
Between 2 and 6 weeks
What is the primary aim of a mesocycle?
To get a soldier to a new level of physical fitness, that will carry over to the next cycle
How long does a macrocycle last?
Usually lasts a year or more
What is the primary purpose of a macrocycle?
To build to a single physical peak
How long are Base, Build, Taper/Peak1, Combat/Peak2, and Recovery and what does their training look like?
Int = Intensity, Vol = Volume Base: 4-12 weeks, High vol. Low int. Build: 4-8 weeks, Moderate vol. High Int. Peak 1: 2-3 weeks, Low vol. High int. Combat: 2+ weeks, Low vol. Recovery: 4-8 weeks, Active rest
