What are the 4 Rules of Firearm Safety?
- Never point a weapon at anything you do not intend to destroy
- Keep finger straight and off the trigger until ready to fire
- Treat every weapon as if it is loaded
- Be sure of the target and its surroundings
What are the weapon safety statuses?
Green: magazine removed, chamber empty, weapon on safe
Amber: magazine is locked, bolt is forward on empty chamber, ejection port cover closed, weapon on safe
Red: magazine inserted, round in chamber, bolt forward, ejection port cover closed, weapon on safe
What is the cycle of function for the M4 and M16 series weapons?
Feeding, Chambering, Locking, Firing, Unlocking, Extracting, Ejecting, Cocking.
What are the three classifications threats must be positively identified as?
- Friend
- Foe (enemy combatant)
- Noncombatants
If your weapon malfunctions or fails to fire, what is your initial action?
Place the weapon on safe, drop the magazine, and Tap (the magazine), Rack (pull the charging handle to the rear), and Reassess (attempt to fire)
What is Immediate Action?
Immediate action involves quickly applying a possible correction to reduce a stoppage without performing troubleshooting procedures to determine the actual cause

- Failure to feed, chamber or lock
