Fluvioglacial Landforms Flashcards
Outwash Plain/ Sandur
meltwater carries out a huge load of sediment and deposits it at the front of the glacier
Braided Stream
during seasonal melts the outwash plain excess sediment overflows down a stream and braids it when trying to find the most efficient path downstream
esker
long ridge of sediment running in the direction of flow
created by subglacial flow
kame
glacier deposits sediment at the front of it and it builds up creating a kame
when glacier retreats it will collapse
Kame terrace
sediment deposited at the sides of the glacier by meltwater streams
kettle hole
meltwater streams bury dead ice under sediment. ice melts and leaves a hole in the ground
proglacial lake
a lake forming in front of the glacier, damned by terminal moraine
Glacial Varves
layers of sediment deposited under a proglacial lake
Varve is heavier silt. what does this mean
warmer periods
varve is finer silt. what does this mean
cooler period
