much like an X-ray movie
The movement of a contrast agent through the
body can be seen

A
Barium - thick white chalky

Why is the barium important?
A
- Images are taken to test the function of the
upper digestive tract - Pharynx, oesophagus and proximal stomach
imaged - Study will be modified to suit patient
symptoms and history

What are the advantages of fluoro?
A
Advantages
- Real time imaging
- Imaging/positional
variations are possible with
increased accuracy - Shows function and
anatomy at the same time

What are the disadvantages of fluoro?
A
- Barium tastes like chalk
- Radiation dose can be high
- Patient preparation not
pleasant - Interventional procedures can be painful
