Fluids Flashcards
1
Q
Absolute (hydrostatic) pressure
A
total pressure exerted on an object that is submerged in a fluid
P = P0 + pgz
P: absolute pressure
P0: air pressure (1 atm)
p: density of fluid
g: gravity
z: depth of the object
2
Q
gauge pressure
A
the difference between the absolute pressure inside the tire and the atmospheric pressure outside the tire.
Pgauge = P - Patm = (P0 + pgz) - Patm
3
Q
Bernoulli Equation
A
P1 + pgh1 + 1/2pv12 = P2 + pgh2 + 1/2pv22
Assume no turbulence; laminar flow
Fluid moves from high pressure to low pressure
4
Q
Flow Rate
A
Q = Av
Q: Flow Rate
A: Area of cross section
v: velocity
