Fluids Flashcards
Intravascular
fluid inside blood vessel
Intracellular
fluid inside cell (most bodily fluids)
Extracellular
Fluid outside cells (intersitial fluid (in between cells) blood, bone, connective, tissue, and water)
What are some isotonic fluids?
0.9% NS, D5W, LR
What do isotonic fluids do?
No osmotic force= cells doesn’t swell or shrink
What are some Hypotonic fluids?
0.45% NS, 0.33% NS
What do Hypotonic fluids do?
More dilute solutions (more water than solute) causes water to enter cells water for edema
What are some Hypertonic fluids?
3% NS, 5% NS, D10W, D5W w/ 1/2 NS, D5LR
What do Hypertonic fluids do?
More concentrated solution (more solute than water)= water is removed from cells
What are some Colloid fluids?
Dextran, Albumin
What do Colloid fluids do?
Fluid moves from interstitial to intravascular compartment given in severe hypovolemia
Patients with severe diarrhea and vomitting monitor for:
Electrolyte imbalance
