Fluid therapy (Shih) Flashcards
Hypertonic saline usually saved for patients that are
- hypovolemic
- Shocky
- hemodynamic shock
- septic shock
- vasodilatory shock
fluid of choice to raise blood pressure
Colloids
Colloids
- made of starch
- inc morbidity
- inc risk of inflammation
- In sepsis can lead to
- inc risk coagulopathy: bleeding
- inc risk of renal injury
fluids more physiologically healthy
crystalloids
maintenance fluid rate dogs
5 ml/kg/hr
maintenance fluid rates in cats
3 ml/kg/hr in cats
To fix problems
Boluses
10-20 ml/kg crystalloid
2-4 ml/kg hypertonic
shock dose of crystalloids I think…
9 ml/kg
Cerebral pressure = blood pressure-intracranial pressure
…..?
catastrophic bleeding
These are guys you do sx on in the ER
Patient with abdominal trauma and hypovolemia
maintain permissive hypotension SAP 80 mmHg
Hypernatremia
- Free water loss
- dehydration
- vomiting and diarrhea
- endocrine
- iatrogenic
cat presented with severe hypernatremia
- 2 L glucose 5% (D5W) IV
*fixing hypernatremia too fast can cause brain edema
*mannitol
Hyponatremia
- Loss of volume
- hypoadrenocorticism
- Iatrogenic
- diuretics
Hyponatremia
complications
- myelinolysis
- ataxia, paralysis, CNS
- days post treatment
