Fluid pressure Flashcards
What is pressure?
Pressure is the force per unit area.
How do liquids create pressure ?
As a liquids particles with an object they create pressure. The pressure of a fluid means a force is any surface in contact with the liquid.
How do you calculate the pressure at the surface of a fluid being used ?
Pressure in pascals ( Pa ) = Force normal to a surface ( N ) / Area of that surface ( m^2 )
P = F / A
What does pressure in a liquid depend on ?
The depth and density
What is density a measure of ?
The compactness of a substance. i.e. how close together the particles in a substance are.
The more dense a liquid is, the mor
particles it has in a certain space . How does this affect the pressure ?
It means there is more particles that are able to
collide so the pressure is higher.
As the depth of the liquid increases, the number of particles about the point increases. How does this affect pressure ?
The weight of these things articles adds to the pressure felt and that point, so the liquid pressure increases with depth.
What equation do you use to calculate the pressure at a certain depth due to the column of a liquid ?
Pressure ( pa ) = height of the column of liquid ( the depth ) in m x density of the liquid ( kg/m^3 ) x gravitational field strength.
p = hpg
