Flows Flashcards
1
Q
Throughfall and Stemflow
A
Throughfall = Intercepted water falls to the surface through gaps in the vegetation or drops from leaves and twigs. Stemflow = Intercepted water travels/trickles down the stems and trunks to the surface
2
Q
Infiltration
A
The movement of water down into the soil from the surface (absorption, soaking, seepage)
3
Q
Percolation
A
The downward movement of infiltrated water through pores in the soil and underlying permeable rock under the influence of gravity
4
Q
Overland flow
A
Movement of water across the surface as it cannot be absorbed by the soil
5
Q
Throughflow
A
Horizontal, downslope movement of water through soil percolines under the influence of gravity
6
Q
Groundwater flow
A
Movement of water from groundwater store to the stream under the influence of gravity
